Domain guide
How to choose a great domain name
Your domain is often the first thing people see about your business. A few simple rules make it easier to remember, type and trust.
Keep it short and easy to say
Short names are easier to remember and harder to mistype. Avoid hyphens and numbers where you can, and say the name out loud to make sure it sounds the way it’s spelled.
If your exact business name is taken, try adding a word that describes what you do or where you are, such as “shop”, “studio” or your city.
Pick the right extension
.com is still the most recognized ending, but extensions like .ai, .io and .co are popular with technology and startup brands. Country endings such as .us can signal that you serve a local market.
Many businesses register a few variations of their name to protect their brand and forward them all to one website.
Protect it once it’s yours
Keep domain locking turned on and leave auto-renew enabled. An expired domain can be registered by someone else, along with the email and search traffic that came with it.
Put it to work
A domain on its own is just a name. Connect it to a website, set up an email address that matches, and add an SSL certificate so visitors see the padlock in their browser.
